日本語入力の設定方法は以下のとおりです。

標準で日本語フォントがプリインストールされていますが、画面全体のメニューを日本語表示したいときは
次のコマンドでデフォルトのロケールを日本語 (ja_JP.UTF-8) に変更できます。

キーボードレイアウトを標準の英語から日本語へ変更すれば、「半/全 漢字」キーでも切り替え可能になります。キーボードレイアウトの変更は、メインメニュー-->System-->Preferences-->Hardware-->Keyboard より行えます。

誤解を生む表現でしたね。代表的なフレーバーが MATE とされて
いるだけで、複数の環境が用意されています。以下は最新版です。

「フリー（自由）であるために、プロプライエタリソフトウェアを排除する、それは便利さをも犠牲にする場合があります。WiFi は、その最たる例かもしれません。

修行僧のように苦難の道を歩くという選択肢もあるかもしれませんが、自分は軟弱なので、すぐ WiFi などを利用できるディストロがあれば、そちらを選択してしまいます。Trisquel は Ubuntu をから派生したディストロですが、デスクトップ環境に MATE を使いたければ、Ubuntu MATE [5] を使うという選択肢があるからです。」

この意見に対しては、あえて反論したい。
ちょっと工夫すれば WiFi は使える。無線LAN中継器で接続したら問題なく使える。
無線LAN中継器とはこんなもの： https://netsurbible.com/lan-ethernet-converter
一例を挙げれば、BuffaloのWSR-1166DHP3 かな。

日本語ロケール設定の裏技を発見したよ。

起動メニューの２番目のインストールを選択して、「日本語」に設定した直後に終了ボタンを押すと、
すぐに日本語のデスクトップが立ち上がります。これで日本語版 Live USB として開始できます。

Atheros AR9287
ノートパソコンに内蔵されたこの Wi-Fiカードはデフォルトでサポートされてたよ。
Trisquel 起動すれば自動的に接続できる。あとパスフレーズを入力すればいい。

インストール直後にやった作業は root パスワードを設定することだったよ。以下のような手順。

demo@trisquel:~$ sudo su
root@trisquel:/home/demo# passwd
New password:
Retype new password:

日本語入力で fcitx や ibus の代わりに uim を使うには、以下の手順で可能です。

インストール済みの不要なアプリのロケールを一括削除するには？

たとえば、Abrowser や LibreOffice を日本語環境だけで使いたいときは、
不要な言語パッケージをまとめて削除し、日本語言語パックを再インストールします。

apt remove abrowser-locale-* libreoffice-l10n-*

apt install abrowser-locale-ja libreoffice-l10n-ja

システムで使う標準の日本語フォントを変更するには？

以下は標準のフォントを入れ替える場合の手順の一例です。

root@trisquel:/home/demo# apt remove fonts-droid-fallback fonts-noto* fonts-takao-pgothic
root@trisquel:/home/demo# apt install fonts-vlgothic fonts-ipafont-mincho

フォントの大きさは、メニュー > システム > 設定 > ルック＆フィール > 外観 > 「フォント」タブ で行えます。
アプリケーションのフォントサイズが既定では「9」と小さめになっているので、「10」に変更すれば Debian と同じくらいの大きさにそろいます。

Trisquel 11.0 では、Google が Android/Chrome OS用に開発した Roboto Regular がシステムの既定フォントに設定されています。
したがって、他のフォントを使いたいときは「外観」のフォントで指定します。
なお、以下のようにして Roboto フォントを削除した場合、インストール済みの代替フォントが自動的に選択されます。

The systemd specific command to change system language is localectl which allows for more configuration options. However, in this case using dpkg-reconfigure is easier as it also automatically downloads the required language pack and directly provides the user with an option to set new system language in one go. In any case it is worth to check the man localectl for more information.

~/.uim というファイルはデフォルトの ~/.uim.d 以下に存在する設定ファイルを無視することになるので、uim-pref-gtk3 の[全体の設定] > Global key bindings 1 > [global] on/off を使って設定したほうが確実で良いです。

[global] on/off > Edit より "<Control>space" を追加できます。
"<Shift>space" が不要なら削除してください。

ネット上の情報を頼りに、LiveUSB にパーシステンス（永続性）が設定可能かどうかを試してみました。手順は以下のとおりです。

1. Unetbootin をインストールします。

$ chmod +x ./unetbootin-linux64-*.bin

複数のロケール（言語）を設定した場合、使用中のデフォルトロケールが優先します。

例えば、英語環境 (en_US) で日本語入力を有効にしたいとき、IBus 設定では English を削除しないと Anthy を有効にできません。日本語入力できなくて困ったときにはもう一度設定をご確認ください。
