i had a world map topped study desk in my room .. for years .
australia was pink on it, ( just saying that to demonstrate how well i remember).
Yes, i remember australia as further away from indsonesia,
and papua new guinea was a tiny tiny bit further away to the north but not much .
new zealand however i remember to be further south and to the left than that shown on your map.

私は5歳の頃からオーストラリアに住んでいました。
私の部屋には世界地図の上に乗った学習机が何年もあり、オーストラリアはピンク色でした。
私の記憶では、オーストラリアはインドネシアよりも遠く、パプアニューギニアは北にほんの少しだけ離れていましたが、
それほどでもありませんでした。しかし、ニュージーランドは、あなたの地図に示されているよりも、
さらに南と左にあったと記憶しています。

I know the map very well as I was all about geography as a child.
It was my favorite subject. Australia was never that close to Southeast Asia ...
Now, it's practically part of Asia. I too also noticed how weird Italy looks and how close Sicily is now to mainland Italy.
So when you just mentioned this it really gave me goose bumps.
I also recall the Mediterranean being a little wider between Sicily and Africa.

mattieu of family postma 3 年前 I grew up in Tasmania, Australia & New  Zealand was lots closer,
though always on that side. It's like Australia has moved up & over in relation to surrounding countries.
I've studied maps most of my life simply because I've always enjoyed them & the idea of them.
